How DIOVAN HCT works

A single tablet of DIOVAN HCT contains valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker, or ARB, that blocks the hormone that causes arteries to tighten and narrow. This keeps the arteries open. Plus, it also contains hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a water pill (diuretic) that removes water and salt from the body through urination, thereby reducing blood volume.
