How EXFORGE works

The combination of medicines in EXFORGE lowers blood pressure better than either medicine taken alone. The ARB in EXFORGE, valsartan, blocks a substance that narrows blood vessels, allowing them to relax. The CCB in EXFORGE, amlodipine, prevents calcium from entering calcium channels so the blood vessels can relax, which lowers blood pressure.

About EXFORGE HCT

EXFORGE HCT contains three prescription medicines in one tablet: amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker), valsartan (an angiotensin receptor blocker), and hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic or water pill). EXFORGE HCT may be used to lower blood pressure in adults when any two of the following medicines to lower high blood pressure are not enough: a calcium channel blocker, an angiotensin receptor blocker, and a diuretic.

How EXFORGE HCT works

EXFORGE HCT works three ways. It starts with two of the #1 prescribed medicines of their classes (CCB and ARB), but adds a third medicine, a diuretic (water pill) called hydrochlorothiazide. These three proven medicines work in different ways to significantly lower blood pressure.
