How TEKTURNA works

TEKTURNA is the only medication to directly target renin. This innovative treatment may help lower your high blood pressure by targeting renin.

Renin is an enzyme produced in the kidneys.

  • It's part of the renin system, a chemical system that works throughout your body
  • The renin system plays an important role in the normal rise and fall of blood pressure

When the renin system is too active, it can lead to high blood pressure. By inhibiting renin, TEKTURNA targets the beginning of this process to help lower high blood pressure.

About TEKTURNA HCT

TEKTURNA HCT has two prescription medications in one tablet to help you turn down your high blood pressure. TEKTURNA HCT should not be used before other medicines have been tried first to treat high blood pressure.

In a study, when TEKTURNA was combined with hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), also called a water pill, blood pressure was reduced more than when either TEKTURNA or HCTZ was taken alone.

How TEKTURNA HCT works

The two medications in TEKTURNA HCT work to lower high blood pressure in two different ways.

Here's how the TEKTURNA component works:

  • Renin is an enzyme in the body that may cause high blood pressure. It does this by starting a process that makes blood vessels narrow
  • TEKTURNA binds directly to renin and interrupts the process that narrows the blood vessels
  • TEKTURNA helps keep blood vessels open, so blood pressure is lowered

Here's how the diuretic component works:

  • Diuretics, also called water pills, cause sodium and water to move out of the body (through urination)
  • This reduces blood volume, which can help lower blood pressure
