Coping with Stress—and High Blood Pressure

Stress affects different people in different ways. For some, fighting traffic during the morning commute can cause irritability. For others, a looming deadline can lead to a queasy stomach. A certain level of stress is natural, but prolonged and excessive stress can affect many aspects of your life, including your health. Stress has been linked to serious medical problems such as heart disease and ulcers—and high blood pressure.

There are a number of techniques that can assist you in dealing with stress, including the following:

Relaxation techniques like guided imagery
Meditation or belly breathing
Exploring your spiritual side through religion, nature or art
Scrapbooking
Reading a good book
Taking a warm bath
Renting a favorite movie
Joining a support group

With so many ways of relieving stress, the key is finding the method that works best with your lifestyle. Join the BP Success Zone Program today to learn more about stress-busting techniques.
